Lancaster County is our home base. Shepherd Fencing installs and repairs vinyl, aluminum, wood, and chainlink fences for homeowners and businesses in the City of Lancaster — and we can pull the city zoning permit for you. Free estimates, no pressure.
City properties come with their own challenges: smaller backyards, neighbors close on both sides, alleys, shared lot lines, and corner lots where visibility rules apply. We measure carefully, work from your survey, and recommend styles that fit the space — like shadowbox panels that look finished from both sides.
Solid privacy or good-neighbor shadowbox panels for backyards that sit close to the neighbors. No painting, ever.
Open, ornamental aluminum that keeps sightlines on front yards and corner lots, plus pool-code styles.
Cedar and pressure-treated privacy, shadowbox, and picket fences built to fit your exact lot lines.
Galvanized or black vinyl-coated chainlink for side yards, dog runs, and commercial lots.
Leaning posts, broken boards, sagging gates, and storm damage repaired on any fence type.
The City of Lancaster requires a zoning permit for most fence installations. Height limits depend on the zoning district — residential zones typically allow up to 6′ in rear and side yards and 4′ in front yards — and corner-lot visibility rules are enforced. We confirm the rules for your address, and we can pull the permit for you.
In a residential front yard, the city limits fences to 4 feet and requires a mostly open style, such as picket, split rail, or chainlink. Homes in the city's historic district may also need review by the Historical Architectural Review Board (HARB) before a new fence goes in. We check both for your address before anything is ordered.
Outside the city limits, the surrounding townships each have their own rules, including Lancaster Township and Manheim Township. Read Do I need a permit for a fence in Lancaster County? or see our Lancaster County fence installation page.
